General Conference Study Journal: Criticism

Our ward's last Sunday lesson during Relief Society Class was about "Criticism" By Elder Dallin H. Oaks (BYU 1986 conference).

This is really a nice topic to choose especially if we wanted to study it, ponder it and savor the meaning of the talk and apply it to ourselves.

I was glad that I was the teacher for this. I made a General Conference Study Journal just in case you also want to use this for your lesson or personal study. I have read several times to really understand the talk. This Study Journal sheet that I am sharing with you is only a guide for your personal study or if you are going to teach the lesson.

There are so many points from Pres. Oak's talk that really caught my attention. Truly the difference between constructive and destructive criticism is on how we deliver the comments or feedback to a person. If we delivered it in a principle of love, unity and with the spirit of the Lord, the result will be constructive. But if we are faultfinding, murmuring, and speak evil to someone, we are destructive. We destroy our own selves because of the negative words that we say to others.

If we are easily puffed up to anger or easily get tired of someone because of their mistake, this is not what the Lord is teaching us. The Lord teach us charity. We should not think that we are better than others. Or we should be patient for the weaknesses of other persons.

I hope and pray this could help you in our personal study and you may download the file for your teaching tool. Thank you!
