Embrace the Future with Faith By President Russell M. Nelson

I googled the meaning of embrace. It says to embrace something is to welcome it with open arms, hold, hug, accept completely.

Literally, the title means to welcome with open arms and accept the future completely with faith.

How do we do this?

President Russell M. Nelson explained and gave us guiding principles on how to embrace the future with faith.

WHAT I LEARNED

We commonly fear what might happen to us in the future because of the different circumstances we have in our surroundings. We fear that we might not be able to accomplish our goals. We fear for the safety and loss of our loved ones and ourselves.

There is so much to fear about the uncertainty.

"All of these fears are current reactions to future possibilities – possibilities that will likely not occur." -Claire Maisonneuve

President Nelson said that "life without God is a life filled with fear. Life with God is a life filled with peace."

With that being said, the antidote to fear is hope, trust, and faith in God.

In the scripture, Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

The innate fear that is programmed in our brains is liars in our minds. Thoughts create fears when we forget to hope, trust and have faith in God. Fears let us want to wait to see what will happen to our future. The question is, are we still willing to believe and do something if we already know what's ahead of us?

Alma 32:31 says,

And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.

Having faith doesn’t mean negative thoughts won’t ever come again. Rather, faith allows us to change our thinking and see challenges as lessons to help us learn and grow. It allows us to develop in ourselves to believe and hope for things we can't see clearly now and knowing that we can make it.

Faith is not knowing what the future holds but knowing how to handle the future. Fear will not vanish. However, fear goes when we believe we can find refuge and strength. And when we believe there is safety in following the commandments of the Lord.

Faith is not allowing fear to control us.

Whether the future will bring us a good or bad situation, faith will help us embrace it. Faith will help us to never stop preparing.
